CHAPTER HISTORY
Strength & Honor Motorcycle Club’s (SHMC) - National Chapter was founded on December 4th, 2005 in Fredericksburg, Virginia. The Club's membership includes those who honorably serve or have served in the Armed Forces of the United States, as well as first responders who protect and support our communities.
SHMC was built as a fraternal organization for like‑minded riders who love this nation and uphold the Club’s guiding principles: Honor, Integrity, Loyalty, and Dedication. Today, SHMC operates as a 501(c)(3) charity committed to raising funds in support of Public Safety organizations.
The SHMC Gray Ghost Chapter was founded on December 4th, 2010, originally serving as the Washington DC Chapter. Following the SHMC tradition, where new chapters name themselves after local historical events or figures, the club officially changed its name to GRAY GHOST on December 4th, 2013. Due to the deep Civil War history embedded in the Haymarket, Warrenton, and Middleburg areas where its members live and ride, the Chapter chose its name to honor the legacy of Colonel John Mosby, famously known as the "Gray Ghost."
JOHN SINGLETON MOSBY "THE GRAY GHOST"
John Singleton Mosby, nicknamed the "Gray Ghost", was a Confederate Army cavalry battalion commander in the American Civil War. His command, the 43rd Battalion, 1st Virginia Cavalry, known as Mosby's Rangers or Mosby's Raiders, was a partisan ranger unit noted for its lightning quick raids and its ability to elude Union Army pursuers and disappear, blending in with local farmers and townsmen. Mosby is considered the "Father" of today's US Army Rangers.
The area of northern central Virginia in which Mosby operated with impunity was known during the war and ever since as Mosby's Confederacy.
After the war, Mosby worked as an attorney and supported his former enemy's commander, President Ulysses S. Grant, serving as the U.S. consul to Hong Kong and in the U.S. Department of Justice.

Though they may no longer ride beside us, their legacy endures in every mile traveled, every bond forged, and every chapter gathering. We honor our brothers who have passed or fallen by upholding the values they lived by:
